Mapping Climate Change Refugia for Vernal Pools

This talk will provide a preliminary assessment of the resistance of particular vernal pools to changes in climate. Vernal pools are small, seasonal wetlands that provide critically important seasonal habitat for many amphibian species of conservation concern. Natural resource managers and scientists in the Northeast identified vernal pools as a priority ecosystem to study, and highlight climate change and disease as primary threats to key vernal pool ecosystems. The information is part of an ongoing NE CASC project Mapping Climate Change Resistant Vernal Pools in the Northeastern U.S.

Jennifer Cartwright is a biolgist with the USGS, and Toni Lyn Morelli is the NE CASC Research Ecologist with the USGS.
