Kirk Havens

About the Speaker

Dr. Havens’ research interests are in the area of coastal resource management. Within this discipline, the emphasis of his research programs has been the translation of science to practical solutions and resource management policy. Two of the programs he leads, the Nontidal Wetlands Program and the Marine Debris Program, were both mandated by the Virginia General Assembly and are recognized nationally and internationally. He led EPA’s National Wetlands Condition Assessment for Virginia (2021, 2016, & 2011). His present work involves wetlands ecology, adaptive management processes, marine debris, micro-plastics, and biopolymers. The majority of his research has direct advisory service application and his research and advisory activities are closely intertwined.
