Research Interests

I combine classical training in the field of physical limnology with modern computational and data science approaches. Current projects and collaborations include:

  1. Lead-PI, Modeling climate change impacts on lake temperatures (sponsored by NE Climate Science Center, WI-DNR)
  2. Co-PI, Continental-scale synthesis of stream metabolism (sponsored by the USGS Powell Center; USGS NAWQA; USGS NRP, and USGS OWI)
  3. The Global Lake Temperature Collaboration (GLTC; http://www.laketemperature.org)
  4. Co-PI, North Temperate Lakes Long-Term Ecological Research (NTL-LTER; https://lter.limnology.wisc.edu)
  5. Building research tools for modeling, data processing, data visualization, and data access (see https://github.com/jread-usgs?tab=repositories)
  6. Interactive web data visualizations for the Western states drought (e.g., The California drought, visualized with open data
